Reentry Reflection

Each year the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency (CSOSA) and the Faith-Based Reentry Collaborative invite the District of Columbia's Faith Community to participate in a series of events to raise awareness of the issues and challenges surrounding prisoner reentry. Over 2,000 men and women return from prison to the District of Columbia each year. These individuals face tremendous challenges and realize extraordinary triumphs as they struggle to rebuild their lives. Since 2001, each January has marked the beginning of a period of reflection, dialogue and celebration centering on reentry-related themes.

Reentry Reflection events include roundtable policy discussions, mentor/mentee events, and an annual Citywide Assembly that brings the community together for an evening of fellowship and reflection on the year's accomplishments.

In 2010, Reentry Reflection events began on January 17th with events that included the observance of Justice Sunday. Justice Sunday, which is spearheaded by the National Alliance for Faith and Justice, occurs on the eve of the annual Martin Luther King Day of National Service. Additional reentry events were held throughout the month of February, and the Women's Reentry Forum which has been rescheduled to May 1st. [See 2010 Reentry Reflection schedule of events].

If a faith institution or community organization is interested in hosting or participating in an event, please let us know. We can provide assistance in selecting themes, identifying speakers, and coordinating your event with others around the city.
